Shanghai Diamond Price Index Officially Launched and Online


On May 5, Shanghai, at the Launch Ceremony of the “2023 Shanghai Diamond & Jewelry Culture Festival” and the “Shanghai May Shopping Festival” jointly organized by Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and Pudong New Area Government, Shanghai Diamond Price Index (SDPI) was determined by the National Gems & Jewelry Testing Co. Ltd. (NGTC) jointly with Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) and Gem & Jewelry Trade Association of China (GAC) officially released it.

Shanghai Diamond Price Index (SDPI) is built by by collecting and organizing domestic and foreign diamond transaction prices in B2B, tracking, evaluating and analysis the diamond import transaction data via the Shanghai Diamond Exchange(SDE) and the retailing sales data of the domestic diamond market, and objectively and timely reflect China's diamond price trend in consumption, so as to better provide references for domestic diamond transactions and retail price trends for diamond companies and consumers.

The Diamond Price Index is currently updated on a weekly basis and regularly presented on the official website of the Shanghai Diamond Exchange. In the future, it will gradually realize all-digital real-time updates and provide real-time services for the Chinese diamond jewelry consumer market.

President Lin, represented the three parties, said, “Shanghai Diamond Price Index is jointly released by industry authorities, which will deliver objective and scientific price information to the market, enhance market transparency, promote fair trade, and guide the stable and healthy development of my country’s diamond industry. Together with the Shanghai Composite (Stock) Index and Shanghai Gold Price, contribute to the construction of Financial Centers and Factor Markets in China, and provide assistance to enhance the voice of China's diamond industry in the global diamond pricing system."
