De Beers has joined National Geographic to help with one of the biggest conservation challenges in Africa: preserving the source waters of the Okavango Delta and the lives they support. Surrounded by the dry sands of the Kalahari Desert, seasonal rains from Angola’s highlands supply the Okavango Delta each year, making them vital for its survival. The five-year partnership will expand National Geographic’s existing work to protect the Okavango Basin, which spans Angola, Namibia and Botswana, from the growing risks of climate change, population density, water diversion and commercial agriculture further upstream. Together, they will work with local communities to protect wildlife and build sustainable livelihoods across the region.
