ALROSA, the world's largest diamond mining company, is organizing a contest for diamond and football fans alike: create a 'football' name for large rough diamond (76.53 carats), and win a ticket to the final game of the FIFA World Cup 2018™. The centerpiece stone of this contest will also constitute the core of a 'football' collection of special size rough diamonds to be auctioned in Moscow. Fans may submit their ideas to www.diamondsofrussia.ru. The winner will also receive a certificate that the stone is named after his or her idea.
ALROSA has also launched a collection of 32 round polished diamonds, 0.3 carats each, named after the countries participating of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ - which can be purchased at the website above. All diamonds are of high quality, D to F color and VVS2 to IF clarity. They were mined in Russia and cut by ALROSA's subdivision - DIAMONDS ALROSA, in keeping with the best traditions of the world-famous Russian cut. If desired, the stone can be personalized with an engraving associated with the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, or it can be given its own name. ALROSA will issue a special-design official certificate confirming characteristics of each diamond. "We decided to provide the fans with the opportunity to take a tiny piece of Russia with them or to mark national teams and symbolic victories ... with a unique diamond that will remain with them forever. The collections of stones have been selected so that they are affordable for a wide range of fans," said Pavel Vinikhin, Director of DIAMONDS ALROSA.
As for the naming contest, the featured diamond, weighing 76.53 carats, was mined at International kimberlite pipe in March 2018. It is a stone of octahedron shape with yellowish tint and dimensions of 29.05 x 28.29 x 25.33 mm. Another 33 large diamonds in the collection will be sold at an auction in Moscow, with viewings commencing on June 25. The results of the auction will be announced on July 30. "FIFA World Cup 2018™ is a landmark event for the fans not only in Russia, but all over the world, " said Evgeny Agureev, Member of the Executive Committee, Director of the USO ALROSA. "It has just started, but has already given people a lot of positive emotions and many unexpected turns. We believe that the diamonds from this collection will be of particular interest to our customers, since these are not just stones, but the story behind them."
