De Beers Ready to Roll Out Diamond Tracking Tech to Industry

Tracr™, the end-to-end diamond traceability platform being developed by De Beers Group in collaboration with the diamond industry, has launched an online resource called the Tracr Community to prepare for the Tracr Beta Platform which will be launched over the summer. The Tracr Community aims to foster the education and collaboration of industry participants, enabling them to share information and tools. it will also serve as a knowledge base for data standards, technical readiness and process best practices that will allow for seamless integration with the Tracr platform.

De Beers says that the launch of this  is the signal to the diamond industry that the platform’s forming phase has ended. Now begins the migration to the Beta Platform which is the industry grade solution. As the Tracr ecosystem grows, the Community will become a vibrant environment for communication, collaboration and education of the wider diamond industry for the topics of provenance, authenticity and traceability. Tracr is an industry-wide distributed traceability platform developed for the diamond industry, by the industry, with De Beers saying it is the first Internet of Value platform that can securely trace a diamond across the diamond value chain – from mine to consumer. De Beers launched its Tracr blockchain pilot in January 2018 with the help of industry participants including Alrosa, Chow Tai Fook, Venus Jewel and Signet Jewelers. The platform tracks diamonds from the mining stage to finished jewelry using a tamper-proof record of each stone’s route through the supply chain.
