Press Release: Only 3 weeks until AMC 2019: “Unlocking the potential of the national mining sector through investment and diversification”.

The inaugural Angolan Mining Conference & Exhibition will take place in just three weeks. The Angolan president recently invited foreign industry giants to invest in the country’s economy, including the mining sector. In less than four years, Angola’s rough diamond production is estimated to reach more than 14 million carats, securing its position as the world’s fifth largest diamond producer.

Following the 2017 election which ushered President Joao Lourenco into office, the Angolan mining industry has seen a boost in its efficiency and potential. The newfound political stability that followed a smooth transition into power after a lengthy period of uncertainty has been a clear sign to all investors in Angola’s promising future and potential for successful investments.

President Lourenco has implemented a new diamond trading policy. The AMC 2019 will deliver a wealth of relevant information about this policy and the opportunities it creates to those attending the conference on 20 and 21 November. Case studies of existing projects will also be discussed; for example, in 2009, Angola conduced a large-scale mapping project, called the National Plan of Geology (Planageo). This aerial geophysical survey covered the entire country at a regional geological mapping scale of 1:250,000, significantly increasing the available knowledge about Angola’s rich mineral potential.

Stakeholders, government officials and mining industry professionals will greatly benefit from the in-depth debates concerning shared infrastructures to unlock mining investments, technological innovation in mineral treatment centres and financing modalities in the mining industry. Recent news sources such as the “Investment risks in Africa 2019” report (Exx Africa Insight) listed Angola as one of the top five investment destinations in Africa, second only to Ethiopia. Clearly, Angola’s mining sector is on the rise.

The list of speakers at AMC 2019 features a line-up of leading industry professionals, including:
