The JCK show in Las Vegas serves as the ideal platform for the International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (IIDGR), part of the De Beers Group of Companies, to unveil SYNTHdetect, the first synthetic screening device in the industry to test multiple stones in set jewelry at once. The screener is able to do so without the need for a probe and has the industry’s lowest referral rate at around 0.05%.
The device uses IIDGR’s patented luminescence technology to rapidly and simultaneously screen stones set in a wide range of jewelry pieces, which includes rings, earrings, bangles, broaches and necklaces. The extremely low referral rate drastically reduces the need for additional and likely expensive testing compared with other synthetic screening products which can have referral rates nearing 10%. SYNTHdetect was designed specifically for jewelry manufacturers and retailers, to use in their back office, so they are able to ensure the authenticity of the diamonds they purchase. This device is the latest, following the AMS2 earlier this year, to be unveiled in IIDGR’s range of second generation detection instruments.
“SYNTHdetect screens multiple stones in set jewelry quickly, easily and reliably, and with the industry’s lowest referral rate. It will provide jewelry manufacturers and retailers with greater levels of assurance that every diamond they purchase and sell as a natural diamond is exactly that,” said Jonathan Kendall, President of IIDGR. “It is yet another demonstration of IIDGR’s commitment to providing products and services that support the diamond trade in all product integrity needs, helping to create a more confident industry for trade participants and consumers alike.” For those interested in acquiring SYNTHdetect, orders are currently being taken with deliveries commencing as from September.
