'Apollo and Artemis', the most expensive pair of earrings in the world, were auctioned by Sotheby’s Geneva spring sale of Magnificent Jewels for a record-breaking price of $57.4 million. Individually, these mismatched diamonds – one Fancy Vivid Blue, one Fancy Intense Pink – are truly exceptional stones and when considered as a pair, they enter a class of their own: according to David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewelry Division, they are, “By far the most important pair of earrings ever offered at auction.” Perfectly matched in size, cut and tonality, the stones are currently mounted as a spectacular pair of earrings, but were offered separately, on account of their extreme rarity, power and presence.

The pair was bought by an anonymous buyer but will be kept as a pair.

‘The Apollo Blue’ presented with an estimate of $38 – 50m managed a whopping $42.5m, whilst ‘The Artemis Pink’, estimated to reach between $12.5 – 18m, fetched $15.5m.
