A major U.S. jewelry manufacturer and retailer Stuller and Dominion Diamond Corp. have partnered to bring CanadaMark melee diamonds to the U.S. market, writes Logan Sachon for JCK. The unique program will track melee diamond batches from country of origin to polished stone. “Stuller has always carried melee diamonds, but now through the CanadaMark melee program, we’ll be able to offer our customers natural melee that has been tracked from mine to market,” said Stanley Zale, Stuller’s vice president of diamonds and gemstones, in a statement. “At Stuller, our goal has always been to provide our customers with complete product offerings in the most environmentally conscious way possible,” he added. “With remarkable gem-quality properties and now traceable origins, CanadaMark melee will help us in meeting that goal.”

Dominion Diamond Corp. executive vice president Jim Pounds told The Diamond Loupe how this new partnership will heighten CanadaMark's exposure to the U.S. market and should appeal to Millennials in particular: "It is an encouraging sign to see the industry concentrate its efforts on what is now the largest consumer market in the world. With our CanadaMark program and its assurance of origin I believe that we have a valuable component that we can add to the story of each of our stones. Our research clearly shows millennials’ desire for a background story, authenticity and an emotional connection to the products they purchase. So I see this demographic as a natural fit for our certificate of origin."

He added that, "One of the key components of our CanadaMark program is ethical sourcing. Our Canadian diamonds are mined with the utmost respect for the local environment, while offering many social and economic benefits to the mines’ surrounding communities. We are confident that our responsible mining practices send a strong message about our commitment to natural and untreated diamonds that are tracked at every stage from the mine of origin to the polished stone." The CanadaMark hallmark is owned by Dominion Diamond Corporation.
