Angola is an example of leadership in diamond mining activity, says the United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour Steven Feldstein, who cites the country's example in safe extraction processes. The US was positive about Angola's current leadership of the Kimberley Process, and noted that the US was willing to offer its co-operation to ensure the integration of Angola in the Voluntary Principles Initiative. Established in 2000, the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (Voluntary Principles) is a multi-stakeholder initiative involving governments, companies, and NGOs that promotes implementation of a set of principles that guide oil, gas, and mining companies on providing security for their operations in a manner that respects human rights.
