This week, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre and the University of Antwerp hosted an “Innovation and Diamonds” conference at the Antwerp Diamond Bourse, featuring specialists from across the entire spectrum of the diamond trade, from mining to blockchain tech.
In the upcoming eighth edition of BrilliAnt, the three-day Antwerp Diamond Trade Fair (ADTF), more than 95 exhibitors are expecting to receive hundreds of retail jewelers, leading designers, trend-setters and diamond buyers. The fair, which takes place from Sunday, 29 to Tuesday 31 January will be hosted in the historic trading halls of the Antwerp Diamond Bourses. It is a joint initiative of the Bourse, Club and the Antwerp Diamond Kring, and is powered by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC).
As announced last week, the Antwerp diamond bourses will make it possible for all its members to avail of HRD Antwerp screening technology at no cost. This initiative adds a second layer of confidence, as polished diamonds imported to Antwerp from India are already checked at AWDC's Diamond Office.
The Federation of Belgian Diamond Bourses has announced an information session on "Disclosure of Synthetic, Treated Natural and Natural Diamonds" to be held on September 29 at the Antwerp Diamond Bourse. The forum will cover the legal framework regarding the disclosure obligation of bourse members, as well as technical information on detection of synthetics, featuring speakers from: HRD Antwerp, GIA and Forevermark/IIDGR/De Beers, followed by a question & answer session.
The Belgian Federation of Diamond Bourses (BFDB), the umbrella organization for Antwerp's four diamond bourses, has announced the names on the new Board of Directors for the respective bourses as well as BFDB's own Executive Committee. On October 8, 1893, the city's first bourse, the Diamantclub van Antwerpen, was established to promote and facilitate trade and industry in diamonds and other precious stones.
The Antwerp Diamond Bourse (Beurs voor Diamanthandel) has made two new appointments to its Board of Directors. Jacques Korn has been elected President, and Rajender Gehani has been elected Executive Director. Members of the board are elected for a four year period. Jacques Korn has been in the Antwerp diamond business for forty years, and previously held the position of Executive Director of the Antwerp Diamond Bourse. He has also been on the Antwerp World Diamond Centre's Board of Directors since 2010.

The Antwerp Diamond Trade Fair has been firmly established on the international trade fair calendar since 2010. It is a full-fledged diamond fair – the flagship of three of Antwerp’s diamond bourses. Seven years ago, a few of the younger Antwerp diamond dealers launched an innovative concept: a ‘niche’ fair, dedicated solely to loose polished diamonds.
In its newsletter to the Antwerp Diamond Bourse members, the Board of Directors of the Antwerp Diamond Bourse has announced that during the Board Meeting of August 27, 2015, article 23 of the Statutes was invoked resulting in the ending of the mandate of Presidency of Mr. Marcel Pruwer. In the message, the Board thanks Mr. Pruwer for his dedicated work as President.
More than 350 buyers from 15 countries are scheduled to attend the Summer Edition of the International Diamond Week in Israel (IDWI), which will take place at the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) from August 30 to September 3. Belgium, Mumbai, New York and Istanbul are all sending delegations of buyers to the event, which is now in its third year. “We are encouraged by the surge in registration for the event, at a time of uncertainty in the global diamond industry and trade," said Moti Fluk, IDE treasurer and head of the IDWI Organizing Committee.
As with past editions of the event, which is held twice a year by the Israel Diamond Exchange, registered and confirmed buyers will be offered three free nights' accommodation for the International Diamond Week which is due to take place from August 31 to September 4.
The buyers' fair is held in partnership with the Diamond Dealers Club of New York and the Antwerp Diamond Bourse (Beurs voor Diamanthandel), and the exchange announced that other bourses belonging to the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) may attend the event for the first time.
